Bersau lake (Ossau)

We often hear "Kids don't like walking...". In fact, what children hate is walking behind rushed adults, unable to stop and look at an ant for more than 30 seconds... Hiking with the family is learning to stroll at Nature's pace, making each new encounter a royal ceremony. Isards and Lammergaiers are, after all, the kings of this protected land !

Don't forget to stop near a stream for a snack. Rediscover the joy of sailing an improvised boat... The most banal of sticks becomes a treasure...
The flight of the Golden Eagle, the whistling of Marmots, Isard tracks, the perigrinations of a colony of ants...
can turn the day "hiker" into an all time adventurer.

How enjoyable it is to daydream ! Yet don't be careless. Mountains can very quickly become hostile. Never forget to check the weather forecast before you leave, stay on marked paths, wear the right kind of footwear and check the contents of your rucksack..

Safety rules should be learned at an early age : Involve your children in the preparation for the outing ! Try not to walk for over two hours with children under 7 ! Choose routes with a goal such as a sheepfold, a summit (not too high), a lake, a waterfall... A piece of advice : Always prepare your route in advance. Many guide books, are available and some are especially intended for families such as the series "Les sentiers d'Emilie" - published by Rando Editions.
