"Ossau-Vallée d'Aspe".

This route offers marvelous views over the high Aspe valley and the Spanish summits.
From the car park, take the path which goes up on the West side of the Arnouss
ère peak.

Some superb dark green yews and a very rich Summer flora will greet you on your way.

The path goes due North following the valley and crosses a reddish crag.

The first firs appear, after about an hour's climb you will enter an area of brush made up of small often twisted and bent beech trees.

This shows the pressure of the snow on the Winter slopes.
At the other end of the forest, slanting, damaged or uprooted trees reveal the passage of an avalanche. After this the path emerges into a wide combe.

The physionomy of the shrub vegetation scattered here and there with its tortured branches and its crooked trunks confirms the difficulty of surviving at altitude.

Turn around and take a look at the Aspe cirque, this proud rocky and snowy barrier. In the background is the Visaurin peak and its cornices overlooking the Aragonese valleys. The path takes you down slightly towards the Gentian plateau at 1695 m.

In good weather the view over the valley floor deserves a halt : you can clearly see the village of Urdos, the successive glacial constrictions of the Portalet, Etsaut and Cette cliffs.

To the East lie the Arnousse pastures, the Sesques massif and its Capéran monolith.

Continuing to the Lazaque pass, you will pass the ruins of a hut.
Now is the time to adjust your binoculars : isards are grazing on the neighbouring ridges and a large number of birds of prey fly over this valley.
Return by the same route.
