This easy hike will take you into the Néouvielle Nature Reserve.

There you will discover characteristic granite landscapes, numerous lakes, peat bogs, high altitude grassland and Europe's highest mountain pine forest.

Walk along the Orédon lake (1856 m) in order to join the path on the right bank of the stream coming from the Laquettes. The path then climbs through the Loste pine forest.

The slope eases out and you come to the first Laquette. You will be charmed by the beauty of these clear waters, nestled in the heart of the mountain pine forest and overlooked by the Ramoun peak.

The path now follows the left bank of the Laquettes through the brush..
The Spring flora is very rich : anemones, primroses, gentians.

As from the second Laquette the landscape widens and becomes grassland populated by Alpine rhododendron (or alpenrose).

Continue from the big Laquette towards the Aubert lake dam.

All the blocks of granite around you were left over by the Néouvielle glacier's moraine . The Laquettes were also formed by the erosion that the glaciers created.

The glacier supplies the Aubert lake (2148 m) with water which comes rushing down in waterfalls and into its reservoir. From the Aubert lake take the road to get to the Aumar lake, whose shape and surroundings make it so charming. From the far end of the Aumar plateau, you will be looking right over the Laquettes.

To get back to your departure point follow the same route back : once at the fourth tight bend in the road, you can either continue down the path through the pine woods, or follow the road (shuttle bus possible).
