"Ossau-Vallée d'Aspe".

The Pombie refuge sits below the South-East face of the Pic du Midi d'Ossau (2884 m), a giant of volcanic origins which came out of the ground 285 million years ago.
The Soum de Pombie pass is a pleasant viewpoint which is accessible to all .
The walk starts on an easy pastoral track. In the Summer you will meet many herds of sheep, cows and horses moving up to Summer pastures from the Arudy district.

The Anéou cirque is one of the most beautiful pastoral sites in the Western Pyrenees. Cross the two successive footbridges that you will see on the righthand side of the track.

After a short climb you will reach a lush grassy area. This prairie sits on altered primary schists creating unstable slopes all the way to the Sénescau hut, which is lived in by shepherds in the Summer.

The path, eaten away by erosion, has been re-lined with stones in order to stop the damaging process. Please avoid leaving the path as the National Park is planting new grass in the damaged areas.

Ready for the climb ?
The path now quickly goes up to the Soum de Pombie pass (2134 m) which separates the Anéou cirque from the Pombie valley.

Take a break and admire the superb view of the Anéou cirque and the Ossalese and Aragonese peaks. On the ridge do not take the path on the left which goes to the Iou pass but go down the path which crosses the mountainside to the Pombie refuge.
Return via same route.
